I am planning on being in Paris on the last day of the Tour as it come into the city. I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts on where some good places to watch it along the route would be. The laps around the Champ de Elysee sound like where the most action is, but it also sounds like it is mega crowded. Is this something worth showing up extra early for, or would it be better to go out of town further and watch them come by at the beginning of the route?

A much better place is the left bank along the Jardin des Plantes, ASSUMING that they come in the same way they did several years back. It won't be crowded and you'll have shade.
I've never watched it from the Champs. Friends have, and they say it's a mob no matter where you try to get.
