Walking/jogging for exercise in mornings in Paris

Hey -- I am staying in Paris for three days (then Avignon for three days) on a short vacation to France. This is my first time to France (or Europe). I am staying in the Montparnasse area in Paris and I like to walk or jog for exercise in the early mornings. Any suggestions as to routes, areas, or behaviour. Do people do this there? I am really clueless. :)

Certainly there are joggers in Paris, many of them even Parisians. If you tell us where in Montparnasse you will be staying perhaps someone can offer a route or park nearby for your morning exercise.

Hi Kathy - You're only about a mile from the Luxembourg Gardens. I have always seen lots of joggers there. Plus, it's just such a beautiful place. Have fun!

I agree with Linda, the Luxembourg Gardens is the perfect place. Lots of runners there running inside along the fence surrounding the park. You will love it! If you want to walk instead of run, the LG is also perfect but I also like walking along the river from Ile Saint Louis to Place de la Concorde and back.

I lived for a few months not too far (near Port Royal RER) from where you are staying. I would run to Luxembourg Gardens as the others have mentioned. My first time running in the gardens on a weekend morning I thought there was an organized 5K, everyone was running around the park perimeter in the exact same direction! I quickly realized this was just a typical morning. It is a gorgeous park to walk or run through. You won't see many people on buses or metros in their workout clothes. I always found it quite mysterious how people actually got to the parks to go for runs. Another option would be to jump on the metro/bus for quick jaunt over to the Champ de Mars which is the park by the Eiffel Tour just for some different scenery. As long as you going early morning there shouldn't be many crowds to navigate around. Also ask the reception desk where you are staying. They might have some great recommendations that are even closer to your hotel. Enjoy!
