Walking in the Berner Oberland

My husband and I spent a week in Murren two years ago and will return again this fall. We are looking for some rather easy walks, preferably in the mountains. Previously we walked Mannlichen - Kleine Scheidigg, the Lautebrunnen Valley, Murren/Allmendhubel to Grutschalp (the steep descent of which nearly disabled my knees), and a walk along the Thunersee. We plan to take the train to Schynige Platte this time and wondered if there were any rather flat or gradual downhill walk in that area. And also, how hard is the North Face trail from Allmenhubel to either 1.) Murren or 2.) to Gimmelwald via the Sprutz waterfall. Or are there any other rather easy walks you can recommend (long walks are OK)? Thank you!

Susan,
I was in Grindelwald last year and my husband and I did the first hike to the lake. The lift is in Grindelwald. You ride to gondola up and then we hiked about 4 miles to the lake. It was nice day and a easy hike. I also enjoyed walking around the outdoor museum at the Ballenburg museum near Interlaken. Have a great trip!

I hiked from Schynige Platte to First, October of last year, and the hike from Platte to Foulhorn (the halfway point) was very strenuous. Very steep and very rocky; I wouldn't do it again. But I highly recomend the second stretch of the hike from First to Foulhorn described in Darla's post. Send me a private message if you would like me to email you a photo of the lake.
