Wachau Valley

We are planning on spending one night in the Wachau Valley area in May...Does anyone have recommendations on where to stay and if staying in Krems, Melk or Durstein is better? Most places are either super expensive or fully booked already!
Thanks for your help!!

Are you driving? If so, you could stay in any town along the Danube between Melk and Krems. We rented bikes in Melk and rode to Krems and passed so many little signs on the trail advertising Zimmers (B&B's) In Melk, we went to the TI and he found us a room in a zimmer. It was very simple (like staying upstairs at your grandparent's house) but only cost us 30 euro a night. We were "drop ins" so had to take what was available last minute, but we were happy with it. Try to google the TI in Melk and see if you can get in touch with them. I looked to see if I still had the sheet of paper that listed all the zimmers, but it didn't make it home, sorry. Krems is quite a bit larger than Melk and may have even more options. Durstein was the most "touristy" so prices could be higher there, but there were other villages between the two that you could look into. Most of the RS places book up early (for obvious reasons) but there are other zimmers in all these towns. We loved the Wachau Valley.

We stayed at the Hotel Sanger Blondel in Durnstein (they have a website). It is reasonable, beds were very comfy and their food was some of the best of our trip! It is family owned and run-they are very nice! Perfect location in the middle of Durnstein.

sanger blondel is fully booked for the night we are looking into..Hotel Wachau in Melk has availabilty...Is that good? I was wondering if Durstein/ Krems with the vineyards and all is more scenic to stay in?
