vz navigator global

Has anyone had any experience using VZ Navigator Global from Verizon in France? My car rental company won't commit to having a GPS for us ("we will note your request") and we will be on the road for 7 days through out the country. We plan to extend our phone coverage (Blackberry Storm) so that we will have internet access and VZ navigator global is only another $20.00. We would appreciate any feedback about this service. Thanks!

VZ Navigator racks up data charges every minute you are using it. You'd be better off purchasing a GPS here and learning to use it before you go. There are numerous models available that come with Europe maps already loaded, and you could always sell it when you came back if you didn't plan to use it again.

Thanks Nancy. According to the Verizon rep, if I buy the data plan, I shouldn't have any other charges (although I intend to check with the main Verizon customer service to confirm). I am wondering about the accuracy of the maps and ease of programing the destinations. I own a GPS already and could download the map if needed. I just thought if I had my blackberry and already was planning to pay for the data plan, I would have one less item to pack and care for over the course of the trip...however, getting lost on a regular basis wouldn't be worth it either...

For $20/month you get unlimited VZ Navigator both domestic and in Europe. However, this is in addition to a global data plan should you want that as well.
