Visiting Rousillon

While in Provence (Arles 4 nights, Avignon 1 night) we would like to see Rousillon. I have been there on a tour but only got a good 45 minutes there and would have loved more time to explore the little trails and pull up a chair at a cafe. My sister is an artist and is interested of course in seeing this area (and spending a little time sketching). I think I know the options to see this pretty little hilltown but wanted to see if I was missing anything. 1) Private 1/2 day tour with Visit Provence (RS Rec) 230 Euro (for 2 ppl, could throw in a wine tasting and another town for the 5 hours like Gordes). I used these people last year for a full day tour and it was great but only a taste really of some of these little towns. 2) Luberon Taxi (RS Rec) quote of 120 Euro each direction... OR 3) See Rousillon for the 45 minutes as part of one of their shared half day tours out of Arles (Visit Provence) 60 Euro each. Anyone know of any other options that don't require us to rent a car? Thanks!

I have read that there is limited public transport to the Luberon from Avignon. You could use Trip Advisor to check that. But if you drive at home you should have no qualms about driving in France. The roads are good and well-signed. A car is the best way to see the Luberon.

We once spent a week in the area (St. Remy) without a car. We got around well enough, but it was a bit cumbersome, and we spent a lot of time hanging around Avignon, because all buses went through Avignon. And I checked and getting to Roussillon from Avignon is doable, but barely. It would require a change of buses in Cavillon, and the schedules are terrible.
