I've read a lot of the replys here on hotels in Paris, mostly on the Hotel du Champs de Mars (mostly good, some not so). We will be visiting in Oct. so no need for a/c. What are some other inexpensive recommendations, either Rue Cler or other areas; Latin Quarter, Left Bank?? We were told to stay away from the Clichy/Montmarte area at night.
Hotel Familia in the Latin Quarter is about the same price. Not far from Notre Dame.
Patricia, I can recommend the Hotel Londres Eiffel - I love the location in the 7th very near the Eiffel Tower. It's a 5 min walk to Rue Cler, and close to Napoleon's Tomb and the Rodin Museum. Several good restaurants and cafes in the area, drug store, bakery, laundromat, etc. Front desk staff spoke English and were very helpful. Small, clean rooms with a nice bathroom and a refrigerator. I read on Trip Advisor that they recently remodeled. I'm staying there again in September. Hope you have a great time in Paris!
We like the Latin quarter. I totally love Rick's booksthey taught me how to travel. If you are very new to this, follow his recommendations. They are always a good value, and safe. Problem is that everyone follows his recommendations, so everywhereit is Americans. I go to Europe to learn and grow, so, if you travel and can feel comfortable, search online, find something intriging and take a chance. Could very well be the trip of a lifetime. Central Paris is safe. Just be alert as you would in any U.S. city. Montmarte is very diverse, but with good judgment, OK. Just do some homework.
http://www.paris-hotel-louvre.com/ Its in the first and we've stayed 6 times (so obviously we love it). Great bang for your buck and you wont find better staff to help you along your way.
