We had such a wonderful time in Selva, Val Gardena in the Dolomites last year we are traveling again this year with our son, his wife and 10 month old child. We will be arriving and departing via Munich. Our travel dates are July 7 through the 21st. We will be staying a couple of days in Munich and was wondering if anyone could suggest some sites for a young family with baby in tow? How about a nice family friendly hotel in the lower to mid price range?
The Marienplatz area is great, slow walking/people watching- a high number of tourist sites in and around it: Frauenkirche; Victuellen, market; Rathaus with its bells and figures, old City gates;great pedestrian area where everybody seems to congregate. Also some outdoor and indoor beer gardens. We also found a number of street musicians and a brass band on a Saturday There is a cute old carousel in the English Garden- but probably not what a baby would enjoy- young parents maybe.
Have a picnic on the grass in the Englischergarten... although you may want to steer away from the area surrounded by an oval-shaped path...
Marienplatz and Frauenkirche. During the afternoon, the Hofbrauhaus may be a fun way to pass the time (great brats). The Munich Toy Museum (I've not been). Nymphenburg Palace. The Deutches Museum. The Glockenspiel. As I recall, certain areas of the English gardens are clothing optional, but the grounds are beautiful.
