I am traveling with my 11-year old daughter by car this summer from the Loire Valley to Zurich and have allowed 2 nights en route. I am considering stopping in the French Alps on the way. Annecy sounds like a nice possibility. Can anyone give me advice about a nice place to stay and fun things to do in the area? Are there any lakeside hotels that are not too expensive and worth the price? Thank you!
Did you look in Rick Steve's book? I stayed in one of his recommendations a few years ago and the description in the book was 100% accurate. I thought that this was a lovely town. It's an easy walk to the lake from my in town hotel and the canals are very picturesque. There was a lovely fountain with a separate trough for doggies. ; ) Pam
Thanks, Pamela, for your feedback. Yes, Annecy looks lovely and we are very excited about this part of our trip. I'll look more carefully at Rick's France book and learn more about Annecy.
Annecy is a lovely lakeside town framed by the Alps. I think your daughter would enjoy the paddleboats you can rent for a small sum and paddle around. You can also rent bikes and ride to Talloires, then take a lake steamer back to Annecy. Look in Rick's book! We stayed in an Ibis hotel in Annecy, which was fairly reasonable but rather sterile. Rick has some better choices but they were all booked at the time we looked. Have a great time!
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Spendid in Annecy. It was very centrally located to the pretty canal area and lake front and had a parking garage across the street for your rental car. This is really the perfect location for a stop in Annecy. You might be able to get a good price from www.booking.com/
The summer we were there there was a great outdoor art installation along the lakefront.
