Does anyone have any suggestions on where to stay in Villefranche-sur-Mer which will not break the bank but which has a water view and is walkable to everything? Thank you.
Hotel de la Darse has wonderful see view rooms and if I remember correctly we paid 89 euros a night in September of 2011.
Thank you very much for your reply. Your suggestion sounds great, I will check it out. Did you have any particular suggestions on sights or places to eat or explore?
I second Andrea's and Steven's suggestions.
Cris , While you are in Villefranche ( Andrea's heads up about the hotel looks very good ) you can walk along the harbor on the Sentier Littoral ( coastal path ) to the old town and then on to Cap Ferrat. Once there be sure to see the village , St. Jean Cap Ferrat , and visit the Villa and gardens of Ephrussi De Rothschild . This villa was built by Beatrice De Rothschild and her husband Maurice Ephrussi , both scions of wealthy european banking families around 1907 . It's an eyeful to say the least . The English writer W. Somerset Maugham also maintained a home there for most of his life . He was quoted as saying of the Riviera ( and Monaco , in particular ) that it was " A sunny place for shady people " . Enjoy !
Thanks everyone for your input. I can't wait.
I also would stay at the Hotel Darse. If you're a walker you'll enjoy the path which goes all the way around Cap Ferat with sea views all the way. One of my favorite memories.
