We are traveling to South of france for a month . I dont know where to stay. My requirements are small town, close to beach, old town, not overly toursity (like Eze), some night life but not too loud, and i want to stay in an old home or villa, no high rise condos. . I am thinking VilleFranche, but its quite hard to get a place in old town. I have however found several great places to stay in Haut de Cagnes, but im worried it will be so quite and remote......any thoughts?
I really love VilleFranche..got stranded there due to a rail strike in Italy...and had a great time.. stayed up the hill from the water.. wanted to stay in the Hotel Welcome but couldn't get in.. it is a good base to explore from in all directions ...the beach is rocky but nice.. there are open air markets and places to have dinner ... the strike really impacted the rest of our trip but there are worse places to be stuck in than VilleFranche .. sorry but I know nothing of Haut de Cagnes.. have a great trip
Jen, Haut de Cagnes is a very beautiful, very, very old hill town. It is rather time consuming to get to and from if you are using it as a home base. We always stay in Villefranche at either Hotel de la Darse or (cheaper and more friendly) Hotel Patricia. Having said that, I just might be tempted to stay a night or two in Haute de C. I would say try the places you found, but make sure to visit Villefranche, it is a beautiful town also.
VillaFranche is wonderful.
Spent 10 days in VilleFranche and can't wait to do it again. It's very central to so many places, and a great place to just absorb the culture around you. Had a very pleasant day touring Cap Ferat(sp?). If we win the lottery (actually don't play, but....) my husband has said he wants to buy a place in VilleFranche!
