My husband and I are headed to France in October. We are going to Paris, Burgundy, the Dordogne, and Provence. Do any of you have a personal favorite village that would be lovely to photograph? I know this is pretty open-ended, but we will have a car and will be staying in Montreal in Burgundy, Beynac in the Dordogne, and Isle sur le Sorgue in Provence. We have been to Paris and Burgundy, but never in the Fall. What would be a must see in the small villages? Any areas that would be very photogenic?
What a wonderful request. I have spent some time in the Dordogne and some of my favorite places are real close to Beynac. The early morning and evening light is particulary beautiful in the old bastide city of Domme. Its high on a bluff with wonderful views of the river valleys below. A small village near by but up out of the Dordogne valley where all of the tourists are, is Moliere. It has a huge fortified church that is the process of being restored. It also has an old bastide fort. If you have the time find the old and restored castle Chateau Biron. The roads approching the town and castle are delightful and very quiet. I have walked and bicycled this area extensivly you will not be disapointed
I was mistaken the restored fortifies church is in Saint Avit which is close to Moliere. They are both beautiful.
