Can anyone suggest a village within an hour or two drive/train ride of Geneva where 2 couples and a baby could spend a few days exploring in mid April? We would like to stay together in an apartment suite or cabin with 2 bedrooms and common living space. Thank you!
Sion isn't exactly a village either, although there's some cool looking castles there.
Yes, Annecy has around 65,000 people I believe. But it is a great city with plenty to see.
I haven't been there (yet!), but someone on this board recommended "beautiful Sion" with "reasonably priced hotels and restaurants." It looks like it's an hour and a half to two hours from Geneva by train. Annecy, France, is also on my list of places to visit - and even closer to Geneva.
I'll second the choice of Annecy.
I'll bet Annecy has a population of more than fifty grand, making it a bit more than a village.
52,890 in 2006 in Annecy (INSEE - the French agency for such things)
Check out Montreux on the other end of the lake from Geneva. Montreux has a lot to recommend it for a couple day stay. Chateau Chillon is an awesome 11th century castle and only 10 minutes away by city tram. Cheese and chocolate factory visits are available nearby at Gruyere and Broc.
Yvoire is on the lake about 35 minutes by car. It's beautiful, if a little touristy, but worth spending a day there.
Thank you , all! We have decided to stay in a chalet at Beatenberg, Interlaken. Will probably arrive by train from Geneva, and then rent a car for a couple of days.
