Do you require a vignette for driving in Austria for major roads or is it required for any type of road? We'll be in the Fuessen and Garmish area and don't have plans to go into Austria there, but you never know when we get there so would like to be aware.
Thanks Nigel. That's exactly what I was hoping for.
The quickest route from Füssen to GaP runs through Austria, passed Reutte, Ehrwald and Lermoos. As Nigel note, you don't need a vignette to drive this route. Likewise, if you drive over the border to Innsbruck, you don't need one there either.
It is for Autobahns, which are high speed divided freeways, like the 401 in TO. If you enter Austria from Fuessen to only go to, say, Reutte, that is a secondary road and it is not needed there. If you join any "A-" numbered road, or similar you definitely need it. Police will be by the side of the road waiting to give out tickets...
