I have only 5 days to spend in Austria. Should I spend more time in Vienna or Salzburg?
That would depend on what you want to see there. The cities are quite different and have significantly different attractions and day-trip possibilities. I'm sorry, but I have no idea of what interests you, what caused you to choose those two cities and what of their many and varied charms would appeal to you. So - what caused you to choose Vienna as a stop? What did you see that made you say, I want to see that? What have you heard and what have you read? Which composers do you like? What would you like to do while there? Same questions for Salzburg. Then write down all the things you want to do in each place and a reasonable time for each. Then add them all up. It will probably add to over 5 days. Then you need to prune those that can wait till next time, or are less appealing or cost too much. When you are under 5 days - remembering to add in the half to three quarters of a day to move between the two cities - you have your answer.
The two cities also are located in different regions of the country, so a consideration might be where else you're headed on this trip and which is more convenient.
Both cities are great to visit. I would spend more time in Vienna. It's a bigger city and needs more time. I would spend 3 full days in Vienna, then drive to Salzburg for the remainder of time. Both cities are great but in my opinion Vienna requires the bulk of the 5 days.
I've been to Salzburg 4 times, Vienna once. If I ever visit again, it will be Salzburg,
We've been to both. We favor Vienna. It is larger as noted and has more to offer. Both are worth a visit but with five days opt for three in Vienna.
Hands down, all in Vienna. 5 days will give you barely a little taste.
Spent three days in Salzburg with one day spent on a daytrip to the Lakes District. Beautiful city but the two days was enough. Vienna has so much more to do. Spent a week in Vienna and still haven't seen it all.
Depends on interests. Five days seem too long for Salzburg. But I have been to both cities. I liked Salzburg much more than Vienna and would like to visit Salzburg again whereas I have no interest in returning. to Vienna. Does that mean you would like Salzburg more than Vienna? No. But I loved Salzburg with its charm and natural beauty. Vienna struck me as just another city in central Europe.
Richard,
I have been to both cities four times,Salzburg has many attractions close by like Salt Mine Tour,Hallstadt,Sound of Music,as well as the Fortress,Mirabell Gardens,Old Town and St Peters Cathedral,Vienna has great Archecture,Museums,Concerts,Vienna Boys Choir,St Stephens and more,a great city with lots of history.Definitely most of your time in Vienna.
Spent a week in both. Vienna 3 and Salzburg 2. Both nice cities with Vienna a large city with large city feeling and Salzburg much smaller, rather cozy. Devra
