Vienna Trip Questions?

Thinking about a trip to Vienna. How many days is suggested for Vienna. Is 5 days too much for Vienna? I have never been there. I have ancestors from Austria so I might spend 1 day trying to research a little of that history. I am a person who does not do a whirlwind vacation. I don't always do 10 things in a day and I might go to some museums but rarely spend an entire day in them. I enjoy walking tours, seeing the city etc. Since I will using some airline miles I will most likely be able to get a second stop on this trip- maybe Prague or Budapest. Any suggestions for either of those cites on days spent there? Thanks

Robert, We have been to Vienna over 4 times. 1st visit was 6 days in Vienna + 7 days riding bikes from Aschach an der Donau back to Vienna. 2nd trip, 10 days in Vienna over New Years. Third trip in August-September for 1 month. Last trip Christmas for 15 days. Still more to see and do.
So 5 days is a good taste for you. It will give you just enough to want to come back to this beautiful city for more. Anybody tells you 5 days is too much does not have any idea about this jewel of a city.

You could easily spend 5 days in Vienna, palaces, city tour, music, museums, strudel, etc. Prague is very different and a great city also. If your time is limited I would recommend a minimum of 3 full days in each city, not counting transport. So that would be 8 nights. A neat museum on Vienna is the http://www.hundertwasser-haus.info/en/, and museum a few streets apart.

Hi, Since you have never been to Vienna, the five full days you plan on using to visit the city is a good start especially if you're not one for whirlwind vacations. A full week is even better. Enjoy walking around in Vienna, taking the tram and U-Bahn (subway), the culture and language, the food esp the coffee.

Vienna is a very beautiful city. I spent 4 days there and cannot wait to return.
I also spent a week on that same trip in Prague, which I enjoyed, but wish that I had reversed the time spent in these two cities. I was blown away at how much I loved Vienna. I will hopefully return again soon and spend much more time there and the surrounding cities. We stayed at a wonderful boutique hotel, if interested let me know. It is a bit on the higher side, but well worth it! Happy Travels!

Been to Vienna twice and can't wait to go again. Five days is a great start. Between Prague and Budapest I would pick Prague. Prague is one of the prettiest cities in the world. All the monuments are lite up at night too.

People travel at different paces and like different things. We spent 3 days in Vienna in December and enjoyed it. If I had made reservations for 5 days, we would have enjoyed it. Still, we were happy enough to be moving after three days. We like to mix small towns with big cities. We left Vienna to visit Passau, where the main sight is the old town itself perched on a hilly peninsula between two rivers. It is variety that makes the vacation for us. Regards, Gary
