I will be traveling from Vienna to Venice (near end of 2 week trip: Munich>Salzburg>Vienna) and instead of going directly to Venice, thought about an overnight stop in Lake Bled to break up a long train ride. Should we train from Vienna to Lake Bled or should we rent a car for this 1-2 days? I am aware of the high fees to return the rental car in another country; should we consider driving, visit Lake Bled and return car to Villach or somewhere near border and convenient to train station (and then train to Venice)?
Or, perhaps just train Vienna to Villach and overnight there instead and skip Lake Bled altogether?
