We were just presented a fabulous opportunity to visit Vienna for 21 days leaving July 30. Never traveled east of Italy before so at a loss of places to stay, things to see, etc. Every morsel of assistance would be appreciated - Thanks! - gaylene
I would recommend a visit to your local library branch…check out a few guidebooks to get some ideas on things to do and see around your interests. You can also head over to Barnes & Noble (or similar bookstore) to browse their huge selection of guidebook offerings. Of course, Rick offers a city/region guide and a couple of DVDs on Vienna. Find them on this website. His older books combined Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Also, check out www.austria.info and www.tripadvisor.com
Melk Abbey in the village of Melk is a must see. Don’t miss Salzburg for a couple of nights. Hallstatt in the lakes district is gorgeous. That should be enough to get you pointed in the right direction.
Almost forgot…
You have a lot of time…Prague and Budapest could easily be worked into your itinerary.
You could take the train to Prague. Munich is also a great Bavarian city. Sounds like fun--enjoy!
