Going to Vienna next June for three days. Is it easy enough to tour on own or should we hire a guide?
Easy to do on your own. Just do some research on the net.
Very easy for both walking and metro tours. Dont miss the Prater (huge and pretty city park)and its famous Ferris Wheel
Hi Linda,
When you arrive in Vienna, buy three-day-Vienna tickets [valid for 72 hours from time of first trip] for city trams, subways and busses, available at the Westbahnhof or at any Tabac (state-run tobacco shop). At tourist information [such as in Opernpassage - the walkway that passes beneath the street in the Vienna Opera area] obtain a city map - which is available in various languages. Consider visiting these: Schönbrunn Palace, St. Stephens Cathedral, the Hofburg (winter palace), Kärntner Strasse (shopping), Figlmüller's (for Wienerschnitzel at lunch), Flohmarkt [flea market - Saturday mornings only), Naschmarkt [any day], Café Frauenhuber [breakfasts], Café Hawelka (afternoon coffee/ tea), Grinzing Heurigers (wine taverns), evenings for wine and dinners, the Prater, Art and Natural History museums. You can zip around using your 72-hour transit pass. Research each of the foregoing on the Internet, of course. The above list is more than a day's worth. Enjoy!...P.
