Vienna Opera House Tour

I am interested in the Opera House tour in Vienna. On the website it only has tour dates for July and August. I will be in Vienna in September and wondering if anyone knew when those dates might be posted. Also has anyone done this tour and have comments/opinions about it?

The Opera House tour for English is at 2PM,we did it in May,it is a beautiful building but stay next to the guide, there are lots of tours going on at the same time and it is hard to hear.

They may not offer tours after August because the opera season starts on 1 September, and they give performances daily thereon. So perhaps... see the building in all of it's glory as it was actually intended to be used? Looks like Tosca, Tristan und Isolde, Nabucco, La Traviata, Carmen, and Otello are all on the bill throughout September.

yea I wondered about that...if they would stop tours with the Opera season began. Guess I'll wait and see. I think I will skip an actual performance as I'm not a big opera fan and have to pick and chose what to spend money on. I'm traveling with my mom and she won't be able/want to stand for a whole performance so the cheaper standing room is out.

The Vienna Opera gives performances 10 months a year, starting in September. We took the tour a couple years ago in March and there was to be a performance that same evening. They'd almost never be able to give tours if they had to wait for an "off" day. From what I recall (and I hope someone corrects me if I'm not remembering clearly), if you were standing facing the building, around the corner to the left was a window where you bought tour tickets and where they posted the most up-to-date tour schedule. Maybe once you get on the ground in Vienna take a spin past that to see what's what.

We did the 2:00 pm Opera House tour on our visit to Vienna Sept. 20, 2012. We enjoyed the tour, but the tip about staying close to the guide is right on. We got to see the stage crew setting up for the Opera evening performance.
