Vienna > Munich or Prague > Venice in 10 days?

I'm working on whittling down the itinerary for my winter vacation to Vienna (and Munich and Venice) in February 2013. I fly in to Vienna on the 6th (arrive 7th) and fly out on the 17th, and hold tickets to two of the balls in that period on the 8th and 9th. I would love to be able to attend Carnival for a day in Venice, and also see Munich or Prague. Is it unlikely to be able to fit these in given the days I have available? I'm comfortable to fit into the 'sleep is for the dead or non-vacationer' mold, take night busses and trains, and so forth.

Hi Heather. Sounds like you have a full week between 9th and 17th? Go for it; that's plenty of time to see other places. Suggest you get a Rick Steves book and use it to help you plan options.
Enjoy your trip!

I too think you enough time to do 3 locations. that's 9 full days (not counting arrival/departure day). seeing munich as opposed to prague would make more sense logistically. possible itinerary: 7th - Vienna 8th - Vienna 9th - Vienna 10th - Take early train to Munich, 5 hours 11th - Munich 12th - Munich 13th - Munich, take night train to Venice (depart 11:40pm) 14th - Arrive Venice from night train 8:30 a.m. 15th - Venice 16th - Fly from Venice to Vienna (3 flights daily on Austrian Airlines)
17th - Fly home Seems reasonable to me. Not a relaxing trip exactly, but not crazy either.

After doing some research, I think we'd be happier doing Prague than Munich. We may have to save Germany for its own trip because I keep getting sidetracked by the amazing museums in Berlin, and the only things I'm interested in in Munich are having a glass of beer at the giant beer house (name is eluding me), Dachau and the castles. I do not know how appropriate these would be in February. Short of flying, is the train a viable option to get to Prague?

Heather... you had better doublecheck on those dates for Carnavale... I think it is Feb. 2-12 in 2013, so if you go near the end of you trip it will be over. Hotels are also at a premium during that time and it is really worth it to spend at least 3 days there during the festivities. When you say you have tickets to two balls, are you talking about in Venice or Vienna?

I have two balls in Vienna. I couldn't afford the very high priced masquerade in Venice. I think we'll be going towards the front half of the vacation to Venice, yes. Trying to determine when.
