If you are visiting Vienna, be aware the trams 1 & 2 no longer make the complete circle around the Ringstrasse as Rick's guidebook states. #1 makes the northern half, #2 the southern half before taking off for parts unknown. There is, however, a new, bright yellow made for tourists tram which makes the entire circle. It is clearly marked with signs on the tram stop signposts on both sides of the Ringstrasse.
Yep, that's the one! Thanks, Steve.
I discovered this the hard way. But I soon figured out where I was and I still got to go for a great ride through Vienna.
Does that tourist tram take daily transit tickets, or do you need to purchase a special ticket?
Costs about 5 times the rate for the regular tram. Total rip off. If you've got a group of 2 or more, hire a nice cabbie, and loop the ring once or twice. Well worth it, and a unique experience (and cheaper than the new tram!)
Just returned from Vienna. I would strongly recommend walking the ring rather than tram or taxi. It is flat and can be walked at any pace. So much easier to find things on foot than from the tram.
