I have a vague memory of Rick mentioning that you could hear the choir for free on Sundays in the church/cathedral. Is my memory correct?
I also think that they do not sing in July and August. Is that correct?
When I went last May you could see them for free if you were willing to stand. It was very crowded so you'd need to arrive early if you want to see as well as hear.
The Vienna Boys Choir is the choir for the Hofburgcapelle. It is a regular church service. When we were there, they had an area for standing room in a room outside the actual church (we could hear but not see).
Why not search for a web page "Vienna boys choir." You should find lots of info there to answer your questions. And it will be up to date.
I did a similar search for the Bloshoi Ballet before I went to Moscow and it helped me plan.
Hi, Janet. If you really want to hear singing by the VBC that you expect, try to go to one of their full on concerts. What many people don't know is the VBC has several levels choirs, and the one you hear in the palace chapel is not necessarily going to be the touring one. (Just like the Opera may have an A,B, C cast.)
I've done the VBC Sunday service, and it was fairly disappointing.
If you want a great musical church service, I'd try Stephansdom which everyone tells me me is a better choice - even friends who sang in the VBC. lol I'll be attending the Stephansdom service in May, and can't wait. PS - The way they are timed, it's usually feasible to do both services on the same day. Hope you have a great trip!
