For anyone who has taken the Germany/Austria/Switzerland in 14 days tour - how did you get back to Frankfurt? We are looking at this tour and the best air fare is through Frankfurt. Any thoughts are much appreciated!
Thank you, Stella
Most of the GAS tours end in Vienna on Sat. I have one booked for Sept and will take a train from Vienna to Frankfurt on Sat afternoon or maybe the night train. The Frankfurt fare is much less than the Vienna fare even with the train fare considered.
Do hope you make plans to spend a day or two in Frankfurt!
fly to frankfurt or take train. dont stay there as it is expensive
Jo, I plan to stay in Frankfurt the Sat before my tour starts on Sunday and also half a day on Sunday before I have to meet the tour in St. Goar. Will be in touch later for some help of things to do in Frankfurt for the day.
Cool!
One hour plane ride via Air Berlin which didn't make it in time for Lufthansa flight home. We had to stay over and catch a flight the next day and pay an extra $200 plus hotel. You need to have at least 2.5 hours between flights.
Thank you all for your input - and yes, will definitely take an extra day or two for Frankfurt! Thank you all again. Stella
Try airberlin.com. The flights will be operated by Nicki Lauda's "Niki" airline and the very first light from Vienna to Frankfurt on Monday morning is always piloted by himself. Fares start from €29 one way incl. all fees.
I wouldn't fly Air Berlin unless you have at least 2-3 hours once your are in Frankfurt to catch your next flight. We learned the hard way. I got the impression that Lufthansa staff are not that impressed with Nick's air service. I had the first flight out of Vienna and it was late leaving Vienna and arriving in Frankfurt and we missed our connection. No one cared.
Thank you for all the great and helpful input. This site is such a great source of information. Appreciate all the replies.
