Hi. Can anyone tell me if I can buy a 7 day Vienna transit pass at the airport and use it to take the S-Bahn (# 7, I believe) into the city center - Mitte. I intend to buy one anyway and it may save me the cost of taking the Cat train. Thanks you
Bill - I always take the bus from the airport to the city center. One way from the airport to Swedenplatz is 8 euro. Once you get your bags, walk out the building and go to station #8 which is the Swedenplatz/Mozartplatz bus. At Swedenplatz, get off the bus and walk straight ahead about 2 blocks to the u-bahn station and you can go anyway in the city. Good Luck. Dirk
7 day ticket does not cover airport to Vienna. You need to buy a seperate ticket for this. S-bahn from airport to Wien Mitte is cheaper than the CAT and does not run much longer than the CAT. We always take the S-bahn.
It depends on where you are staying in the city for the bus or s-bahn. S-bahn from the airport is very quick and takes you directly to Wien Mitte station for 4 euros. At Wien Mitte you can connect to various u-bahn lines to other parts of the city. BTW Bill you can buy your 7 day ticket at the station below the airport or at any station in town. machine have english instructions and are very easy to use. Just remember to validate your ticket.
Thank you both. I was considering the bus or the S-bahn. I don't see any reason to take the CAT when either of the former are available and quite good and convenient. I think I will take the S-Bahn for 4 Euro and purchase my 7 day pass at the airport as you suggest Alex. I am staying in Josefstadt near the Volksplatz (volkspark ?) U-Bahn stop. Thanks, again
Bill
Just chiming in to say the CAT is a rip-off. I did it before thoroughly researching the S-Bahn and realized my mistake after I'd bought the pricey CAT tickets. It's only a little bit faster.
I would like to thank evweryone for taking the time to help me out by sharing your opinions and expertise. I will be taking the s-bahn into wien-mitte and then using my 7 day pass for the u-bahn. Leaving on October 17 and looking forward to it. I may even take a day trip up to Melk and the Abbey on Saturday. Any thoughts? Bill
Try to get down to Durnstein from Melk and visit the castle where Richard Lion Heart was held captive.
