Hello, all! A couple questions. From Ramstien to Luxembourg, my husband and I have one day to kill. July 11. We will already have seen Trier and the Rhine, and also Luxembourg City. What would you recommend? Leaving Ramstien early and going to Vianden or to visit Cochem and then Burg Eltz? We will be spending the night in Lux.
Also, would a 3+hr train trip into Strasburg one day be worth the trip if we have to be back in Ramstien that night? (Btw... about how much should i expect to pay for that? Can't find a price on DB website) Thanks for any suggestions! Thanks
Tough call. We loved Vianden. But we also really liked Burg Eltz.
What about skipping Strasbourg in favor of doing both Cochem and Vianden?
Strasbourg is totally worth it for a day trip, IMO, as long as you're willing to go early and leave late (or as late as possible). You can see the old city, eat some great food, enjoy the cathedral, one museum, and maybe a boat ride in a good 10 hours there. I've taken people for day trips with about 2 hours in each direction and everyone thought it was great.
Strasbourg is great, but taking 6 hours out of your day to see it is a bit much. I'd suggest something closer. Cochem is great.
Thanks everyone! Strasbourg is actually the place I want to see the most but I really don't think we have the time. I would train for 6 hours but don't think my father in law and husband would be really thrilled with my dragging them across the country every day. Maybe we should just do Cochem and Vianden.
Another gorgeous medieval town only 38 miles from Ramstein is Bernkastel-kues. It has everything you want in cochem or strasbourg and is less touristy!
