Veterans Day at D-Day Beaches

Purely by coincidence, I realize that my tentative itinerary will have me at the D-Day beaches - and the American Cemetery - on November 11. Any idea of whether that date affects the typical schedule or activities at sights in this area? A Google search didn't yield anything noteworthy. While it seems a particularly poignant day to visit, I don't know whether to expect anything different.

I have no idea, but you might want to contact the American Battle Monuments Commission at their web site. I just took a quick look at it and it only shows scheduled events for Memorial Day and D Day but they might be able to give you and indication of how much non scheduled activity there is. When you get to the cemetery at Normandy definitely take time to look at the exhibit in the lower level of the visitor center, you will not forget it. Also if you have time, the Saint James cemetery (Listed as the Brittany cemetery) is not too far away although it is a bit hard to find but it holds the graves of over 4400 American soldiers who also deserve our respect. Have a good trip, Irv
