Hi all,
I'm looking for hostels or B and B's (or anything) that is a great deal and a great spot both. Has anyone had this experience in either Paris or Arles? Do either of these cities book out far in advance for a late September stay (Paris Sept 20-24; Arles Sept 24-28). Thanks in advance for the excellent advice I always get here!

If you are talking about Sept.2009, it is not too early to reserve at hostels. On this website, back at the Graffiti Wall, there is a category under Sleeping that covers hostels. You might check there. Another source for listings of hostels is the LET'S GO series of books. Some hostels are better than others, as you have already figured out, so just consider the ones that have high recommendations.
For Paris I highly recommend any of the three MIJE hostels in the Marais. They are renovated 17th-century private mansions. Both Rick Steves and Lonely Planet say they are the best budget accommodations in Paris.
Which HI hostel has the best location for Paris?
Look at www.hostelworld.com
They have great reviews from previous guests and they will have a map and directions as to where it is located.
Wow Tim, another great tip from you! I'm bookmarking the MIJE hotels for my son for future reference. They look really good, and you can't beat the location. Thanks!
Yolanda, do you mean Sept 2010?? because,, booking now for Sept 2009 means you are booking very late,, September is a busy popular month and many places may already be full,, but, try everything and good luck.
I haven't stayed at a hostel, but a girl at work stayed at both the MJE one and another one called ST Christophers in Paris , and she said both were absolutely fine,, but the MJI one is better location.
Good luck.
Many thanks to all. MIJE is, sadly, all booked, but I am checking others.
in Paris Residence Du Palais, great location right across the street from the Jardin du Luxembourg. I stayed in Dec 08 for 50 euro a night. It's a pension includes a shower and sink in the room. Very nice people who ran the place, and clean. Near some great restaurants a metro stop 2 blocks away.
Yolanda,
For Paris have you checked Le Village Hostel in Montmartre? It gets very good reviews.
Jeff,
According to the map, the most centrally-located HI hostel in Paris is Jules Ferry. Sorry, I don't know anything about the neighborhood it's in.
Jules Ferry is on the Canal St. Martin, not too far from Place Republique.
About the MIJE hostels....I went to their website and cant seem to find any detailed information about the rooms, whats included, or any pictures. ...it just wants me to fill out a reservation form. ...but I dont know if I want to reserve until I see more info. does anyone know how to get more info/pics before you reserve??
thanks!!
