We will be at the palace of Versailles (with the paparazzi in tow, of course) and want to know your advice in visiting here. I've heard to buy your tickets beforehand to bypass lines, get there when they open, visit the inside tours first thing in the morning, then walk the gardens later. Also, Marie Antoinette's compound is an additional fee, but can you actually go inside and tour the buildings there, or are you roped off and you can stick your head in the doorway and tha's it besides walking around the outside. Thanks!
You can go inside the Petite Trianon, but not the smaller Little Farm buildings, but they are beautiful on the outside, and the whole area is lovely for walking around. It's my favorite place at Versailles.
you can see her jail cell in paris - are you making a movie about her? you have a cool name man!
Yes, Marie Antoinette's jail cell in the Concergerie is one of my favorite places to visit.
It's not her actual cell, it's a reproduction. But it's still interesting to see what it was like. You can rent bikes in the gardens at Versailles, by the Grand Canal, which we really enjoy. It's a fun way to see everything and because the grounds are massive, we can see a lot more.
Wow, only 10%? I assume the other 90% was forest (a little remains and riding through them on the paths is fun)? I know they did a lot of hunting.
Right, I know the cell in the concergerie is not her actual cell, but it's approximately where it was and a reproduction of what it was like, which was pretty nasty. And the Queen's Hamlet may not be all it was -- but it is still a very charming area.
If you have the museum pass, the Trianons are covered under that pass. You can tour both Trianons and get up close to the Hamlet buildings, but you can't get inside them. Still worth it, though, as it too is also my favorite area of Versailles. Bring a picnic lunch/wine from your local Parisien market and have a picnic on the grounds. It will be a great day if the weather cooperates with you. Man, I miss that place...
BTW Mr. Clooney, do you find Danville more to your liking than Lake Como?
