My wife and I are going to go to Versailles on Sunday, July 4 and we will both have museum passes which do not cover visiting the Gardens on Sundays in the summer. Is there a way to buy two Gardens tickets once I am inside and avoid the long general line outside to buy tickets? We will probably arrive around 10 or 11 in the morning. I'd like to arrive earlier but I doubt that will happen.
Dick - After you've toured the Chateau just walk to the garden entrance and purchase your tickets. I believe the cost is 8euro per adult. After you've toured the garden don't forget to tour Marie-Antoinette's estate. Chateau de Versailles
I just got back from a 21 day trip to France and Versailles was a must see. Mairie Antoinette's Hamlet was a highlight. Just be prepared for a long walk. We got to Versailles before it opened and had a leisurely stroll through, went outside and then got out tickets to the gardens we had no problems. Not even much of a line. By then, about 10:30 the crowds were everywhere, lots of tour groups. You might consider getting there earlier.
Hi Dick,
Your museum passes will get you through the initial lines into the Chateau without a wait (big bonus), and after you exit the Chateau, you'll exit to the gardens and purchase your ticket before entering. Lines are fast, just a few minutes. As mentioned above, make a point to visit the Domaine de Marie Antoinette, it was the highlight of my Versailles visit. If you've the time before getting to Versailles, visit a market in Paris and collect some picnic supplies to enjoy while your touring the gardens. It's well worth it.
When going though security, do you have to leave your purse or small purse backpack?

Jean - When we were there last year we were able to carry our bags with us.
