Versailles/Museum Pass

I apologize in advance for posting this question yet again but I need clarification since everything I read seems to contradict the last thing I read.

I have a museum pass. Does it restrict me in any way at Versailles? I don't want to get there and find out there's something I haven't got a ticket to see. Train isn't a problem.

Thanks!

A quote from the Paris Museum Pass Web site: "The PARIS MUSEUM PASS gives access to all the sightseeing excursions open according to the season: the 17th century Chapel and Hall, the State Apartments of the King and Queen, the Apartments of Mesdames daughters of Louis XV, Apartments of the Prince Heir Apparent and Galleries of the 19th century History of France and the domain of Marie-Antoinette. Not included: shows, musical water shows, audio guides, conferences, restaurants and transport services."

A quote from the Versailles Web site concerning the Passport one-day pass: "To discover the Versailles Estate in all its detail, a useful formula which gives you admission to all the tours of the Palace, the grounds, the Trianon Palaces and Marie-Antoinette's Estate. Grandes Eaux musicales and exhibitions are also included. NB: an audio-guide in 10 languages for the tour of the Palace is included in the price of the ticket (3 languages for the temporary exhibition)."

If I remember correctly, if you want to use the Museum Pass at Versailles in the summer on the weekends, it will cost more because of the fountain show, so you will not be able to use it. As far as I know, the fountain shows are only on the weekends and maybe Tuesdays (I would check the website to be sure), so if you do not go on those days, you should be okay.

Dawn - We were in Paris the last week of June and used the museum pass to get into Versailles and Marie-Antoinette's Estate. You had to pay 8 euro(I think) for access to the gardens and the water show.

Thank you all for your responses. Do we have to wait in line if we want tickets to visit the gardens and get audio guides or can we skip the main line and go to new lines? I'd rather buy a Versailles pass now and avoid lines than try to utilize the museum pass if it restricts the gardens, especially.

Dawn:

I was at Versaille 2 weeks ago on a Saturday. We got there about 9:30am. The Museum Pass allowed us to bypass the ticket line and go directly to the security line to get into the palace.

To get an audio guide, there was a line for that so you might want to consider Rick's free audio guide you can download to your iPod. That's what we did and it was great.

After the palace, we paid 8 euros each to get into the gardens since it was the weekend and they turned on the fountains. There really was no line and it was well worth it.

Hope this helps!
