Versailles- Confusing passes!

I’m looking at going to Versailles either on Sunday with our Museum Pass or on Tuesday when our Museum Pass has expired. Partly it will depend on the weather forecast (who wants to pay extra to see fountains in the rain!). I’ve spent a day researching this on here, SNCF, and the Versailles sites. Here’s what I’ve found. When I say ‘covers everything’ below, it’s assuming if I do choose to go on the weekend certain items are only open then, so I know some items aren’t available weekdays. Also, I’m planning on downloading RS audioguide so I won’t need the one there.

a.) Museum Pass- Covers everything but the garden/fountain shows on the weekends (7 Euros, pay at garden), audioguide ($?- don’t need), and RER train ticket (about 6 Euros RT).
b.) Le Passeport- (20 Euros weekdays, 25 weekends, +1.50 for train) Covers everything including train if purchased (in Paris).
c.) Forfait Loisirs- (21.65 Euros weekdays, 25.95 weekends) Covers everything including train except the audioguide (don’t need). The SNCF site does not mention either the Chapel or the Hamlet.

Questions:
1. Forfait Loisirs- Confirm the Chapel and the Hamlet are covered by this pass?
2. Is the “Le Passeport” with the train addition really called “Forfait Loisirs” or are these really two different things you can purchase?
3. CHILD- I have one child less than 18 (age 12). Do I need to purchase anything for him except a train pass on the RER for about 6 Euros? What about on the weekend, will he need a pass for the fountain show?
4. WAITING- Chateau & Domain (M.A.): Rick mentions bypassing the ticket line if you have the Le Passeport, but he doesn’t mention this with the Museum Pass, and he doesn’t mention the Forfait Loisirs anywhere. Can I bypass the ticket line with all three of the passes to the Chateau? Exactly where is the bypass line?
5. WAITING- Gardens/Fountain: Is there any way to buy a ticket for just the fountain show/gardens ahead of time (somewhere else) so I won’t have to wait in the ticket line in the garden if I end up using Museum Pass on weekend?

The Versailles site says that the chapel is included year-round and the hamlet is included during high season (which has just begun).

The Passeport does NOT include transportation. The Forfait Loisirs does.

Great, Thanks Tim! 1st question down.

  1. RS's Paris book suggests you buy the Le Passeport "before you leave the city-you'll pay E1.50 more, but it will cover your round trip train ride." Guess I can just ask for the F.L.- same thing to me it sounds like.

  2. Child- Pay for Fountain show?

  3. Entrance Line with passes- where?

  4. Pre-purchase just Fountain show tickets?
