Hi, I will be in Paris from Oct 6th-Oct 11th 2012, and I was planning on visiting Versailles on Tues Oct 9th. I was trying to buy my tickets online and their website wasn't working, so I emailed them and got this response: Madam, We inform you that trade unions have noticed a strike on 9th October 2012 We will be able to announce a delayed opening or a closing at the end of the staff meeting (around 11.00am.). Some opening disturbances, and even the closure of the Palace, might be planned because of the strike. If you book another date, we advise you to select the "French version" as there is a technical problem on the English version and we are trying to fix the problem. If you need further information, please contact us at +33 1 30 83 04 05. Best regards, Customer Relation Service Does anyone know any more about this? The person I am traveling with has never been to Versailles and I don't want him to miss it. Should I rearrange my itinerary and plan for another day? If there is a strike, do they really only last one day? Any info anyone has on this would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Ana
Typically such strickes last only a day, but I would closely monitor the website to see. If you can only go on that day, the gardens may still be open to walk around.
"Should I rearrange my itinerary and plan for another day?"...Yes
I think it's fantastic that they (Versailles) are being so upfront about it and letting you know ahead of time so that you can plan ahead. Yes,there is a major strike action planned in France for Oct. 9. This pretty much means it will start that day (although some transport systems may start reducing service a bit the evening before). What no one really knows until things get started is whether the strike will continue after the 9th. Sometimes these things pick up steam and continue for a few days. Sometimes they fizzle and that is that.
Thank you everyone, I guess I will have to keep an eye on it and rearrange a few things. Ralph...I know, what are the odds? Yes, Balloon Fiesta is coming up but I will miss most of it since I will be in Europe :)
