Versailles Chateau immediately from Orly

Plane arrives from USA at Olry at 7:40 am. Staying two nights in Rue Cler. Thinking about going straight to Versailles from Olry that morning (utilizing the bag check at the Chateau for our two backpacks), and then heading into Paris via RER-C afterwards.

Good idea?

Is there an easy way to get directly to Vesailles from Orly, (the best SCNF transilien routing I could find took 90 minutes). Taxi? Shuttle Bus?

Thanks, Steve. Good advice. We will have lie-flat business beds on Open Skies, so I'm really hoping to get some rest for the first time ever (only 70-90 passengers on board). But your point is valid that we will be tired.

If you decide to go for it, there is a better route.

Take the Orlyval to Antony, the RER C to Massy-Palaiseau, and a different branch of the RER C to Versailles-Chantiers. The total time will depend upon how long you have to wait to make the connection at Massy-Palaiseau, but it will range from about 40 to 60 minutes to Versailles-Chantiers. It will take you less than 15 minutes to walk to the chateau.

Looking at also going pretty much directly to Versailles upon arrival in Paris - probably drop bags at hotel first.

I'm having a difficult time communicating directly with staff at Versailles, with regards to purchasing tickets online. (It seems the web site will not allow you to select "United States" as your country when you are registering - I received a replay re: this issue - in French)

Is there another option to purchase tickets in Paris city proper, as opposed to lengthy "queing" at the palace itself?

Carol,

On the English version of the Versailles Web site you will need to choose "Etats-Unis" which is French for "United States."

Marshall,
Please post about your Open Skies experience. We're taking it from DC in two weeks--biz seat, not biz bed though
