Has anyone been to see the battlefiled spectacle at Verdun? I'm wondering if it is worth the time and money to plan our visit to the battlefield around it.

We have visited the Verdun battlefield area and merely driven through the battlefields. We stopped at a huge musuem/ossuary building the overlooked a cemetery. We didn't know there a "spectacle" at Verdun. Since I can't comment on the spectacle, I would suggest visiting the musuem/ossuary.

My husband is a military historian and we have been to Verdun many times. He also knows most of those who work there, as well as the Americans who work with the cemetaries. I have never heard of any spectacle at Verdun. You could check with the Romagne 14-18 museum. If it happens in Verdun, Jean Paul knows about it. http://www.romagne14-18.com/en.html

Since this seems to be something not known about, here is the link to it: http://www.spectacle-verdun.com/en/spectacle/the-show. I love a good spectacle, and it's supposed to honor those who perished in that horrendous battle, but I'm disinclined toward tourist ripoffs, hence the question above.

Are you referring to the Flammes à la lumière show? I have not seen it but it is a fairly big deal in that region of France and has a good reputation. Visiting the Forts, ossuary and trenches, martyr villages and cemetaries is a moving experience.
