Hi
looking for ideas, for Venice to Vienna. Have two and half days, thinking of Innsbruck (day 1), then Salsburg (day 2)via Hallstatt. Then to Vienna to pick up a cruise on the afternoon of day 3. Train is the obvious choice. Many thanks in advance. Gerard
With only 2 1/2 days, I would eliminate Innsbruck. There isn't much to see there and you really don't have enough time. Check the train schedules and see if you even have enough time for Hallstatt and Salzburg. Personally, I would spend the 2 1/2 days in Salzburg.
From Venice to Vienna is about 360 miles. To get to Innsbruck/Salzburg/Vienna by train, it's a long way out of your way. You'd go over to Verona before turning north toward the Brenner Pass. I absolutely adore Innsbruck for the mountain scenery and Salzburg for the Music, the Augustiner Brewery and general tourism. But, there is so much to see in Vienna that you should spend the full 2 1/2 days there. It's a great city. Look into K&T Boardinghouse for the cheapest room in the city at the most central location in town.
Hi thanks for the replies. We'ed originally had the idea of departing from Budapest however, timing of holidays revailed and we have changed to a cruise departing Vienna. Day one of the cruise is Vienna so part of that city is covered, which left the 2 &1/2 days. We don't want to cut into our three weeks in Italy any more that we really had to. Hallstatt appears to be a place to try and get to. I did look at the train routes, and knew the distances, breaking up what will be a lengthy train trip seemed a good idea.
thanks again
