We'll be spending 3 days on the Riviera in June and want a convenient "home base" (will have a rental car) for day trips to Monte Carlo, St. Tropez and Gorges du Verdun. Travel agent recommended St-Paul-de-Vence, but it doesn't have the best write-up in Rick's Provence book. Vence sounds a little better -- less congested, cars allowed in town. Anyone have any experience with either/both and recommendations/preferences? Thanks a lot.

Hi Patti. I didn't stay in either place you mention but last spring we did stay in Antibes and found it a great base for exploring the area. Plus Antibes is a neat town in its own right. We stayed @ Hotel Pension le Mas Djoliba (www.hotel-djoliba.com) - as recommended by Rick. Hotel Pension has its own parking lot for easy parking. Plus we could walk to the Med and downtown Antibes.
