Veggie restaurants and tapas bars in Spain?

Hi,
I would appreciate recommendations for good veggie
restaurants and tapas bars in Madrid, Segovia, Toledo,
Cordoba, Sevilla, Granada and Barcelona. Thanks!

Hi Ashwin,
Try the website www.happycow.net. It lists vegetarian and vegan restaurants, as well as health food stores, from all over the world. It is the best that I have found; it has guided me to great restaurants in Europe, Latin America, and in the USA.

Also, pretty much everywhere you go will have vegetarian options. Just ask. Espinacas con garbonzos (spinach with chickpeas) is my personal favourite and is almost everywhere in Granada

Thanks Jerry & Ava. happycow.net gave me a good list of veggie eating places in each of the above places and I will definitely remember to ask for spinach with chick peas when in Granada!

Most bars will offer an item called a "sandwich vegetal" (Vegetable Sandwich). While it might sound tempting to a vegetarian tired of Espinaca con garbanzos and tortilla de patatas (the other vegetarian staple), be aware that the sandwich comes with an ample portion of tuna fish mixed into the mayonnaise. Spain is many years behind the States in terms of catering to vegetarians. A vegan friend of mine was once offered a tapa of "sangre encebollada" (congealed blood fried with onions). She'd explained to the bartender that she didn't want to eat anything which required killing an animal. His response was that it wasn't necessary to kill a pig to draw its blood! You might try looking for Moroccan or Egyptian restaurants (there's a great one in Seville right below the Pte. Barqueta) for the falafel and couscous.
