Vegetarians in Paris?

Any vegetarians out there with restaurant recommendations for Paris? Not necessarily restaurants with exclusively vegetarian menus, just tasty non-meat options.

Just as a tip, onion soup is usually made with beef broth, unless they are offering a vegetarian option.

Vegetarian as in, no-meat-but-dairy-is-okay? If that's the case, then it isn't really hard at all to eat out in Paris. At least, IMHO. I was being vegetarian on a number of trips to Paris, and had no problems. A Salade Nicoise... or tomato and mozzarella... onion soup... an omelette, either plain or with veggies and cheese... a crepe on the street, with just cheese or with Nutella... frites, of course!... grilled vegetables... Others will have specific recommendations - I just wanted to hop on and say "Don't worry!" You will definitely be able to eat - and eat well! Only caveat: I did NOT ask about cooking fat... and suspect that on at least one occasion my gorgeous fried potatoes were cooked in duck or pork fat. I just told myself that what I didn't know wouldn't hurt me. If you are more conscientious than that, then knowing where you are going, perusing the menu first, and knowing the right questions to ask will be a big help.

My wife is a vegetarian. Our favorite vegan restaurant in Paris is a tiny place called Le Potager du Marais. It's not too far from the Pompidou Centre. Fills up fast, best to reserve. It has a very extensive menu, all vegan. I'm not, but I enjoyed it so much we've been back several times. Generally, she does okay in Paris. Restaurants are required to post their menus so you can browse easily and form a plan.

There are almost always a few good vegetarian options on the menu - large salads, omelettes, etc. And sometimes, if you ask, they will put together a veggie platter for you. I always avoid soups, they are often made with a meat or fish stock base. Le Potager du Marais is good, but small and crowded. If you can eat early (7 pm) or late (10 pm) it's a lot better. They fill up quickly for dinner and they don't rush you (or anyone else :-).

Salad Nicoise always has tuna included. And onion soup is almost always made with beef broth unless otherwise specified and other soups with chicken, beef or fish broths. As mentioned, definitely check HappyCow.net for recommendations on vegetarian, vegan and vegetarian-friendly places to eat in Paris. And there's plenty of ethnic eats in Paris as well, like Falafel stands, Indian and Asian where you can find even more options.

The all vegeterian restaurants in europe tend to be pricey. My wife and I both vegeterians tend to look at Italian,Indian,Asian, and middle eastern restaurants. They usually have multiple vegeterian options or will make you a special vegeterian dish. My favorite places in Paris to eat are the 4th and 6th districts.
