Anyone have any favorites in these cities?
well, that's interesting. i guess there aren't any vegetarians posters here.
In the past 18 hours....possibly not. Or possibly none with recommendations in your two cities.
However, there are detailed instructions on how to do a complete search of the Helpline on the main page of the site. Click here to reach those instructions. Use the search terms 'vegetarian' under "All these words," and 'Paris' and 'Amsterdam' under "one or more of these words" and you should come up with people who have made some recommendations in the past.
In Amsterdam, some of the Indonesian restaurants will have meatless options.
David Lebovitz is an American food writer living in Paris. He has a great blog on living in Paris which contains many tips for visitors. Here are two of his entries on vegetarian eating in Paris.

And of course, there is always L'As du Fallafel on rue de Rosiers in the Marais. Messy but delicious.
I second L'aus do Falafel-- it's the best Falafel in the world in my opinion.
I'm a pescotarian, so I had lots of fish in paris, but I think if you're a vegetarian (not vegan) you shouldn't have too much trouble.
If you eat dairy, you could always have a cheese plate for dinner :) yum!
What type of vegetarian are you. As a pescotarian who eats dairy, I have never had a problem getting food anywhere-even in Rome where they love to eat the parts of animals Americans don't usually consider! In Amsterdam, I would recommend the Indonesian restaurants.
thanks so much for the replies. i do eat fish occasionally and i'm not a vegan, so cheese and eggs are on my menu. i saw the happy cow website. i didn't really think i'd have a problem; i just thought some veggie posters might have particular favorites they would recommend. the falafels sound great - i'll definitely check them out.
In Amsterdam there are a number of options, just do a Google search, but we did eat here:
and had a wonderful meal.
When we were in Paris, we at at Le Grenier de Notre Dame, 18 rue de la Bucherie. We had dishes like vegetarian cassoulet. I don't know if it's still open, but we plan to look for it when we're in Paris in 10 days.
