Van Gogh Museum internet site down?

My wife and I will be spending 21 days next month between Normandy, Belgium, Netherlands and Denmark. We have our rooms, travel etc. booked. Today I am attempting to get online tickets for some of the museums we want to visit. However i am having trouble getting tickets for the Van Gogh in Amsterdam. I am trying to get tickets for Sept 13 but that day keeps coming up as unavailable. Out of curiosity I tried to enter other dates, some even into November, and I get the same "unavailable" message. Am I out of luck as tickets are booked that far in advance ? or is the website possibly down or something ?

I wouldn't worry too much about getting tickets ahead of time. We have been there three times and bought tickets there. First thing in the morning is easy. Later, there may be a line that moves along unless a frikkin' bus load shows up and cuts ahead. The longest we have ever waited is fifteen to twenty minutes. There is an upside to lines: you get to meet some pretty interesting people.

My experience with the Van Gough is radically different. On all of my visits the mid-day lines have been very long and slow moving. Folks with the museums passes can bypass the long line though. Van Gough was offering timed tickets via their site earlier in the summer, but they have suspended it for the time being. When they decide to start it up again everyone (including pass holders) will need a timed ticket to enter. You mentioned your will be visiting Amsterdam Sept. 13, be aware that the International Broadcasting Convention will be in town then, It's one of the largest conventions in the world and hotel rates will be sky-high:(

Thanks for your quick replies. I'm relieved to hear that about the Van Gogh as that is a must see for us during our trip. Re: lodging in Amsterdam. We booked to stay in Haarlem at Stempels Hotel several weeks ago for the very reasons you mention, cost and availability. It seems it will be a slight inconvenience to commute from Haarlem to Amsterdam but our choices were slim and I'm hoping it won't be too much of an issue.
