Which would you choose to go to to see the canals and scenery? I know Amsterdam has tons of canals, but Utrecht looks nicer. We will be driving from Kinderdijk, I know Utrecht closer. Thanks!!

If shown a random photo of a canal in Amsterdam versus one in Utrecht, it would be difficult to identify which city. The actual canal-scenery is pretty similar. Overall, of course, Amsterdam is a much bigger city, has a more extensive canal network, and a larger selection of attractions. Utrecht, being a university town, is a little more cozy. I like both, but I would prefer to stay in Amsterdam and see Utrecht as a daytrip.

No contest! Amsterdam is one of the great cities of Europe, and Utrecht is just, well just Utrecht. I sent you a pm on another topic, but check the section on Amsterdam. Leave the car at a Park & Ride and take the train into town. If you can arrange it, stay on a houseboat instead of a hotel. Here is a link that might help: http://www.houseboathotel.nl/
