Has anyone had a successful experience using Google maps app on an ipad4 in Europe without buying a local SIM. We use this app with our ipad domestically (USA) to navigate in new towns when on foot. We are looking to do the same in Germany and France.

Just like here, it works when you have a wifi connection. I often will take a screen shot of a map when I am connected. That allows me to look at it offline at a later time (e.g. directions from the train station to hotel).

Oh Laura great idea!! I was wondering how I would access my custom Google map while walking with no charges.. That is perrrrfect...
