Hi! I am from Hong Kong.
I have purchased a 7 days german rail pass.
I have to travel from amsterdam to cologne on 16/7 from 1834 to 2112. However, I was told I have to pay an additional fee to travel from amsterdam to cologne only with this rail pass.
Can I book this ticket on Internet? If not, is that I must purchase this ticket in Amsterdam?
What will be the additional fee I have to pay?
I will depart on 6/7, please answer as soon as possible.
Thank you!
Can you really commit to the 1834 ICE from Amsterdam (if you are arriving that afternoon on a flight, probably not)? If you can, you can purchase a Europa-Spezial ticket for that train for €29 (as of right now) all the way from Amsterdam to Köln. That's probably less than a ticket from Amsterdam to the border. That €29 is for 2nd class; 1st class would be €49.
Or, you could purchase a Europa-Special ticket to Oberhausen (in Germany) on that same train for €19 (right now) and use your rail pass from Oberhausen.
Do you already have a seat reservation for that train. The Bahn doesn't say that reservations are mandatory, but it does say, "Please reserve". If you get the ticket all the way to Köln, you can get a reservation for the entire trip for only €2,50 additional. Or you could just get the open ticket online and reserve a seat all the way from Amsterdam to Köln in Amsterdam.
You can purchase the ticket online with a CC and print it out from a PDF file they email you.
