Unna germany

I will be visiting Unna germany in the near future for training. What are some things to do and places to visit near Unna? Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Dean, you're going to be just a hop, skip and jump away from Dortmund, the 7th largest city in Germany and, among other things, famous for its parks and green spaces. The "Sauerland" is south of Unna, with a so-called Naturpark (like a state park?); the countryside around there is very pretty and there should be lots to do in Dortmund and surroundings from sightseeing and shopping to nightlife. Wikipedia has an English description of Dortmund.

Take rain gear. Have fun!

Koln isn't too far away. It has the most awe inspiring cathedral. Looks like about a 1 1/2 hr. train trip. For a weekend, you could go to Amsterdam--about a 4-5 hr. train trip. Lots to see and do and very different scenery. Brugge, Belgium could be another weekend trip--about 5 1/2 to 7 hr. train trip. Much smaller, but somewhat similar to Amsterdam. Canal rides, great chocolates, windmills on the outskirts of town, historical churches (check out Rick Steves book). It's very quaint with lots to see and do. One of my favorites. Have fun making memories!

How long are you going to stay? Are you looking for daytrips or weekend getaways?

For a great daytrip I'd suggest the mining museum in Bochum, probably the best of this kind in the world.

Luedinghausen is not far either and has one of the most interesting moated castles of the region with a good museum inside (most moated castles in the area are not accessible to the public).

Muenster is one of my favourite cities in Germany and also great for a daytrip from Unna. Interesting history and architecture (wonderfully rebuilt after 95% destruction of the city centre during WWII) but also a bustling university town. And it's one of the most livable cities in the world! Ok, I might be biased as I lived there for several years but it actually did win the www.livcomawards.com a few years ago.
