understanding train prices in Austria

I am trying to book a train from Salzburb to Vienna directly on the website. The prices are quite different on the same day. I also see different Train names like Railjet or OBB. I also see a second word after Vienna Wein..... Which one am I to book? Help please. Also, their options are like, no discount, ticket without reservation, Vortec card, etc. How do I book the best deal?

Vienna is what we call it. Wein is what they call it. I have absolutely no information regarding tickets.

OBB (actually ÖBB) are the initials for Austrian Rail (Österreichische Bundesbahnen). It is probably followed by IC (ÖBB IC, Austrian Rail InterCity train) or EC (ÖBB EC, Austrian Rail EuroCity train). Sometimes it's shortened to ÖIC or ÖEC. RJ is RailJet, Austria's answer to the German ICE, their fastest express train. All those trains go into Wien Westbahnhof. Use that in your query. When you get the schedules, click on "Ticket and Prices" to see the available prices for that route. Standard fare tickets are what you would pay at a counter in the station. If you have picked a date at least 3 days in the future, you will see a whole list of "Spar Schiene" (savings tickets) for different times and classes.

If it helps any, once you get on that train you will enjoy it. You'll see three hours of Austrian countryside climbing into the mountains. Great stuff.
