I am going to Europe in march for two weeks, flying into Zurich and out of Vienna. I don't really have any must sees set in stone, so any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!
It's pretty hard to offer suggestions when we know nothing about you ... your age, your interests, your level of energy, your budget, your preferred method of transport, whether you have been to Europe before, etc.
That's a pretty broad question Nick. If you want suggestions you need to give people some idea of what you like to do.
You can see a lot in 2 weeks. It really does depend on your interests. Do you want outdoors/scenery/adventure or historic/cities/museums or small towns/local food and drink/markets? Do you have 2 full weeks on the ground in Europe? Or is it 2 weeks including the long-haul flights. What's your style - book hotels and trains (probably the best way to travel) in advance or wing it? Stay in places for 3-5 nights and go in-depth, or whiz through with a series of 1 or 2 night stays? Any special needs, like shoe-string budget or 4-star accommodations. You can often save a lot by buying train tickets 3 months in advance, but then you are locked into a plan. Are you young enough for student discounts or old enough for senior ones? A simple route is a straight line, stopping in Munich and Salzburg for a few days each and some little towns along the way, maybe renting a car from Salzburg to Vienna. Or you could head up to Prague or add Budapest.
I was tentatively thinking about going to Lucerne, Munich, and then Vienna but I was unsure if that too little to fill two weeks. Do you have any suggestions on other places to go to on the way, or are those cities interesting enough for 2 weeks?
If I go to Europe I definetly want to experience some of the historic aspect as well as local culture and food, but I would say outdoors/scenery/adventure would be my favorite part. I would have 15 days including travel so maybe closer to 13 including travel days. I will probably try to book things in advance, and Im trying not to get lodging for too expensive. I'm just out of college so I'm eligible for student discounts.
I was originally thinking Budapest or Prague, but I was worried they were a little too out of the way. Are they worth taking the extra time to get to?
"would say outdoors/scenery/adventure would be my favorite part." If you're into winter sports, then March is a fantastic time of year to visit the region between Zurich and Vienna. If you're not... its a lousy time for outdoor activities and scenery.
