Hello there my boyfriend and i are renting a motorhome and travelling around southern germany in september.we must start and finish in baden-baden as our flights are to and from there.we ope to travel along the southern border of germany across to munich for beer in oktoberfest we are looking for some advice on good towns aong the way as there are so many and we have limited time.looking forward to hearing everyones great advice!!!!!!cheers!!!

From Baden-Baden drive thru black forrest and Triberg to Freiburg. From Freiburg you could do www.europapark.de or a day trip to Alsace. If not cut thru "Höllental" (=hell valley) towards Konstanz at the lake of Constance. I recommend a day trip to Stein am Rhein and the rhine river falls at Schaffhausen. Also visit Mainau island in the lake. From Konstanz take ferry boat to Meersburg (spend a few hours there, walk up and down the old walled castle like town). Visit the baroque church of Birnau and continue onwards to Friedrichshafen. Driving along the northern (ie. German) coast of that huge lake is more scenic than the Swiss side as the view of the stunning alpine panorama simply beats the view from the Swiss side to the undulating German shore. At Friedrichshafen the lake is 14km wide which is the distance from the Southern tip of Spain to Northern Africa. Enjoy the beach club at Friedrichshafen and also have dinner at Lukullum restaurant. ... right down by the lake in the Friedrichshafen area. Suggested day trip: Take ferry boat to Romanshorn (Switzerland) and drive to Schwägalp via St. Gallen. From Schwägalp take cable car up Mt. Säntis. On a good day the view reaches from the Zurich area in the West, the lake of Constance in the North, Liechtenstein in the East and the Italian alps in the South. From Schwägalp continue via Liechtenstein (you're done with that country in less than an hour) to Bregenz (Austria). Refill car on Austrian side before returning back into Germany (difference of at least 30 cents per liter). Also visit Lindau, a beautiful island city in the lake. Leaving the lake from Friedrichshafen drive to Ravensburg (beautiful town), Waldsee (beautiful baroque convent), Ulm (tallest steeple in the world) to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Make sure you visit Dinkelsbühl and maybe Ottobeuren as well. Stay over night at Rothenburg, do the watchman's tour. From there drive down to Füssen, visit Neuschwanstein...

... castle. Continue on towards via lake Chiemsee, visit Herrenchiemsee island, to Berchtesgarden. Visit Obersalzberg (hitler's private mansion site) and Lake Königsee (do the boat ride). Next sight would be Salzburg (Austria) and if you want continute on to Hallstadt. From Salzburg it's about a 90mins to 2 hours drive to Munich. From Munich it's a 2 to 3 hours drive back to Baden Baden.

You should definitely hit Kandern on your way. A lovely small village in the farming area of the Black Forest, but a beautiful place with definite charm! We love it here!
