Trying to get from Rota, Spain to Charleston, SC

I am trying to get from Rota, Spain to Charleston, SC on or around the 2nd/3rd of March. I know that Jerez Airport or XRY airport code, is the closest airport yet after looking at the US AIR, Delta, and Span Air websites it seems none of them go there or will allow me to use that code as a starting point. Also the prices seem to be very high from 1,900 to 2,800 US. Am I looking in the wrong places? This is a simple one way trip, two months in advance. I know its overseas, but 1,800 seems really high. Anyone know where I should be looking?

Whenever you search fares from one small airport to another small airport you'll always get super high prices...especially if you're doing it one-way. You'll get better prices when travel to/from two international airports like Madrid-Atlanta, or possibly Sevilla-Atlanta.

You may also want to check the round-trip fares, and throw away the unused portion.

1st of all a one-way is always much more expensive than a round trip.2nd your closest real airport is Seville (SVQ)Search for your flights on opodo.es. Opodo is the European equivalent to Orbitz (yet not related to it). I looked up a round trip (ida y vuelta) out on the 2nd and return on the 16th of March and found a fare of €810 for the entire thing. On your outbound you'd have to change planes at Madrid and PHL airports. You wouldn't care on the "return" anyway, so disregard it...

If you're a military dependent (based on the cities?), there's a real easy answer.

Rota's a naval air station. Charleston's an air force base. Flying machines move between them several times a week.

Military (active duty and retired) fly free if there's an empty spot. Dependents (if accompanied by mom or pop) can tag along at the same cost.

The downside is that you have to cough up a couple of bucks for the grub. The upside is that you can take along an air mattres and sleep on the floor the whole way -- no jet lag.

Go see your friendly recruiter, raise your right hand, and spend twenty or thirty years being a moving target for every butt-head in the world. You too can fly free for life.
