We don't even have airline tickets yet, but I looked up a couple Paris hotels for the last week in June, and both were booked up. Does June tend to be a busy tourist month in Paris?
:-) If I were rude, I would reply "Is Pope Francis Argentinian?!" But that would be rude, so I won't. Yes, June is very touristy. VERY. TOURISTY. But don't worry. You will be able to find a hotel. There are a lot of hotels in Paris. If you let this board know your price range and location preferences, we can give you some recommendations. Here is mine. It is in a not-so-touristy location, and I've gotten a reservation with as little as a day's notice. Nevertheless, it is GREAT: http://www.yelp.com/biz/le-hameau-de-passy-paris#hrid:g98JFqlLu5c6Pwb-qhJwbA
Hi Sharon, I always book hotels through Expedia. Even if you don't want to, put in your dates and price range, and you can search through the different neighborhoods in the heart of Paris to see what appeals to you. In June 2012 we stayed at Hotel Sainte Beuve near the Luxembourg Garden because the Expedia price & ratings were great, and we really enjoyed it. I think I booked it 6 months in advance.
I go to Europe every summer for a month for the last 12 years. In searching for places to stay, I use the usual search engines (Booking.com, Expedia, Air..) to narrow down my preferred list. I always contact the hotel/B&B directly to make my reservations. Hopefully, this will preclude any problems at check-in that one may encounter if booking thru a consolidator.
I also request any rooms that I have found recommended elsewhere, like high floor (if they have an elevator), non-smoking, quiet (back side away from the street noise), etc. I also ask about payment options and ask if they offer a discount for cash which I usually pay with anyway. We prefer B&Bs and almost always stay at one. Most B&Bs do not accept credit cards which does not bother us. Happy travels
Thanks for your replies. I know my question probably seems strange (or stupid). When we made our first trip to Paris (we've only been there twice) I was not using the internet to book my own rooms. Since then I do and I've kept a listing of the hotels in Paris recommended by this board. On our first trip, AAA did the booking for us and indicated it was during a time when there were many conventions going on in Paris, and they could hardly find a room for us - they finally did (and it was awful). Since I looked up two hotels and they were booked for the end of June, I was wondering if that tended to be a time when it was hard to find a room. So, I'll assume it won't be a problem, will book my flights and proceed forward with finding a place to stay. Thanks, Charlie, for your messages to me.
Sharon , some hotels, many small ones in fact, will not accept your reservation this far in advance so their booking system may say "room not available" but it means its too early, not that hotel is full. Make sure any hotel you book at this point has a good easy cancellation policy so you can cancel and rebook with .another hotel if you find one you like better or for a better price.
I have always booked my hotels directly,, and I have never stayed at a RS recommmended hotel,, so do not get too caught up on that.. even the one RS tour I took stayed in NONE of his recommended hotels !lol
Good point, Pat. Thanks.
If you do have your heart set on a particular hotel, e-mail them directly and ask when they start taking bookings for June 2014. In all likelihood, as Pat said, it's too early now.
I think Pat is right. Many hotels don't have rates yet for 2014. Many smaller hotels don't take reservations more than about 6 months ahead whether they have rates or not. I was looking at bookings for February last week and some hotels weren't booking past Dec. 31 yet.
